Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher related to Charles “the Crook” Keating. Oops.
October 15th, 2008 . by Marty
John McCain did great tonight in the debate. But every time John mentioned “Joe the Plumber,” some of us in the campaign banged our heads against the wall. If Steve Schmidt had any hair left, I hear he would have been pulling it out tonight. He reportedly screamed at John’s debate prep team tonight (out of earshot of reporters, of course). “You idiots – he’s related to Charles Keating… of the Keating Five scandal!” They thought they had a real live Joe Six-Pack who’s spurned Barack Obama’s tax plan. But what they forgot to do was check on Joe Wurzelbacher’s background.
Turns out that Joe Wurzelbacher from the Toledo event is a close relative of Robert Wurzelbacher of Milford, Ohio. Who’s Robert Wurzelbacher? Only Charles Keating’s son-in-law and the former senior vice president of American Continental, the parent company of the infamous Lincoln Savings and Loan. The now retired elder Wurzelbacher is also a major contributor to Republican causes giving well over $10,000 in the last few years.
Does any of this make Joe the Plumber a bad guy? Of course not. In fact, after that ill-fated night at the Watergate, he may finally be giving plumbers a good name. But at a debate where John goes full bore on Obama for guilt-by-association with William Ayers (and dodges a bullet by Obama not mentioning Keating Five), the press is going to bring it back front and center by midday tomorrow once they delve deeper into the most popular plumber in America.
This might remind you of the Paris Hilton scandal – where one side of the McCain campaign attacked her in an ad, not realizing that her family were huge donors. I was the first to warn the campaign of the perils of miscommunication within the campaign, and that story flared for a week.
UPDATE: Sure enough, a few hours after posting this, the left wing haters at DailyKos posted (or shall I say copied?) their own revelations about Joe’s connections to Keating. Like I said to the campaign: Oops.
UPDATE AGAIN: This story certainly got traction, and I’ve had media requests all afternoon. It’s nice to see that Michelle Malkin linked to me even as she contends that the lefties have all sorts of weird conspiracies about poor old Joe. But even Michelle misses the point a little: it doesn’t really matter how Joe is related to Keating. What matters is that here we are talking about it when we should be talking about Obama and Ayers. The campaign really should have done a better job vetting the man they planned to reference 22 times in the last and final debate.

Wow! what a boneheaded move on McCain part… to bring up a person related to his sordid past “The Keating 5″ in which he was also very much involved as outlined in another blog fact vedio on obamawatcher1a… what stupid move McCain… Was Joe the plumber a plant all along? hum?? makes you wonder?

The Liberal Playbook says that if you discredit the messenger, you discredit the message. Joe’s (or Sam’s, who cares) message is No Higher Taxes. Did you get it? Or are you too busy blowing Barry Hussein’s smoke?

Yea, I got it… no higher taxes, I can appreciate his opinion on it… and respect it it.. but it is ironic that this guy is related to the Keating family, one of the biggest crooks in the banking industry in the 90’s and McCain was in fact involved with this crime… Yea, your right.. I am blowing Obama’s smoke… and it’s great knowing he will be your President in less than twenty days.. Get used to it Mr. bssshooter!

Don’t let it get to your head. Joe is a distant relative of Charles Keating, and guilt by association won’t fly, especially when Obama is suffering in that department.
Didn’t you hear? Obama is related to a genocidal maniac, his “cousin” Raila Odinga.

Next time you see a DKoser or a HuffPo moron puling that one, you show them that link. By the way, all this “Joe the Plumber” talk has been hurting Obama. It wasn’t a stupid move, especially since he is just a normal American. I think you are missing the point, that only the fringe left will care…

hmm … I must say I have never heard of this? … I must examine this issue more closely… your right.. about guilt by association… I don’t want to fall into that right wing trap also… thanks for the insights… something to think about?

It isn’t a right wing trap, it is a misleading conclusion made by far-left radicals which puts a microscope on Obama. Their isn’t “right wing traps” here, it is simply a reaction to a demented response from the Obama camp. Since when isn’t it allowed to ask someone running for President a question? Barack gave a Marxist response, “spread the wealth around”, and is getting hammered for it.
Did you guys even vet him? NO! You bought into this message of “hope and change” and didn’t bother looking into what it meant. Raila Odinga ran on a platform of “hope and change” and then decided to have 1,500 Kenyans killed when he wasn’t elected. Obama was supporting him before and after the genocide… What does that say about his “hope and change”?
Do the research, actually educate yourself on his positions. only 2/3 of Americans pay taxes, so how the hell can you give a tax break to 95% of the country? How is taxing business going to create jobs? How is increased spending on programs like “Early education” going to help fix the situation America is in now when studies show it is a money pit? How is he going to fight the war in Afghanistan when he is supporting Odinga, a man who promised radical Muslim groups that he will turn back Kenya’s assistance in the “War on Terror”? How is he for all Americans when he attacks each ethnic group with vastly different ad campaigns? Separate but equal indoctrination? Come on…
You have been had, you have listened to his message far too long without doing the research on it. He claims to talk about “the issues”, but all it is is empty rhetoric. All we hear is how he is going to change things? Change them how? You better hope that his “change” doesn’t fall in line with his “spread the wealth around” message.
I was just in a socialist country, they don’t work…
